Stereotyping Unjustified!

Stereotyping: Having a set notion about an individual or group.

Often in life I have been stereotyped. Well, is it that bad? Yes! Ask me how much it hurts.
It sometimes seems that some of the notions are made to make you stop doing what you want to. Stereotyping is basically a barrier that keeps a divide between boys and girls, men and women, old and young…
You never know when you are crossing the line. There are lines every where damn it!

Ok, you try to befriend a girl; 50% times you are misunderstood as fooling around. Rest 50% times you are accurately understood!
Men are supposed to be ruff n tuff, who like speed and violence. You don’t drink? You ain’t a man! Men are harsh.
Girls are sweet, innocent and delicate.
Baniyas are kanjus.
Cricketers are doing too much advertisements, they are all for money and not interested in the game.
Politicians have to be corrupt. Delhiites are worst drivers. Indians are poor.
There are hundreds and thousands of these!

And my mind seems to explode when I listen to even one of these! I firmly believe in individualism. Sometimes when I defend girls, I am misunderstood as a feminist. Let me clarify this once and for all, I am an individualist. If a person is good at something, why do I care if that’s a “HE” or a “SHE”?

I consider stereotyping as a mask to biased opinions kept alive to let things be the orthodox way. People are different at different times. Sometimes I love to ride my bike zigzag at high speeds and at other I like to just smoothly sail my machine across the nice wind. Sometimes I am watching disgusting movies like “Hostel” and at other times I am shedding tears in “Love Actually”.
I don’t like to be categorized, can’t I be set free?
Answer is, “NO”!

I finally understood after years of frustration, that it is human nature. Stereotyping is built-in defect in humans. Wonder how I discovered that?
Just consider these words of mine and you’ll know:
“Hindi movies are just crap”
“Shahrukh can only work in those happy times and stupid senseless family movies”
“Girls can just cram things up, they don’t have logic or brains enough”

This is public apology to all I stereotyped. Trust me I have changed just because I have realized what it means. I would not like to stereotype those who stereotype, so I think we humans have an ultimate built-in facility that we should use: Self-realization.

Awesome article dude!!
a very nice topic to talk upon..
and ya the best part in this article is u realized ur own mistakes and apologized for that.. thats gr8

anywayz i also think that this stereotyping is simply orthodox and i personally also go against it as u said correctly that the thing that matters is individuality and self realization..
BUT varun u know its the human tendancy to discriminate, to find flaws in all the things others do as u said u also did that.. so this is for sure its really very tough to ignore this categorization..

well i guess it depends on the situation dat whether stereotyping is justified or not...
suppose u r a father of a daughter who wants to go out for late nyt party in an objectionable dress... ur immediate reaction wud be no... cuz u hav a pre-mindset dat dis is not ryt for her cuz we r not open to changes.... she myt not do anything wrong but still we r not in a position to do so....
actually i wud say dat ppl wid da mindset of being stereotyped r da ones who keep encouraging da ryt person to do better dan dey react...
like i studied in a collg which has a set repo of being bad.. it did lot of things to cum out of dis rigid thinkin of ppl, but failed.. i tried to change da notion by doing higher dan expectaions of dose stereotyped persons to make them realise dats its not dat bad... n inside story tells dat it has done much better dan various oder collgs of same university...
so sumtyms dese stereotyped ppl actually helps u to excel...
